A sound base for a lasting repair

Why Evermend

A sound base for a lasting repair

For a timber repair to last, the wood beneath it has to be sound. After you've cut out the rot and checked the timber is dry, the stabiliser soaks into the remaining soft or weakened wood and binds the fibres back together. It also acts as a primer, so the filler bonds to a sound base and is less likely to come away over time.

Bonds into the wood

A structural bond, not just a surface fill.

Moves with the timber

Won't shrink, crack or absorb moisture.

Non-sag

Stays put on vertical and overhead repairs.

Work it like timber

Sand, drill, nail, screw and paint once cured.

The Evermend system

Stabilise first, then fill

The stabiliser prepares the timber. The filler rebuilds the repair. Use both for repairs involving rot.

How to use it

Prepare, mix, apply

Full instructions are below, and we're happy to talk you through your first repair.

1

Prepare the timber

Cut out all soft, loose and rotten wood, then clear the dust. Brush on Evermend Stabiliser to seal and strengthen the timber.

2

Mix

Squeeze both bottles to fill the measuring chambers, which gives you the 2:1 ratio. Combine in a separate container and mix thoroughly. Only mix as much as you can use while it's still workable.

3

Apply and finish

Press in small amounts first to avoid trapping air, build up the repair and shape it. Once cured, sand and paint.

Full instructions and tools

Substrate Preparation

Remove all soft, decayed wood using a suitable tool such as a router or chisel until you reach a solid, sound substrate. Ensure the surface is dry by checking the moisture content (maximum 18%). Remove all loose, friable material and any paint from the areas to be treated. Sand the surface lightly before applying the stabiliser.

Application & Mixing

Remove the bottle caps from the dispenser chamber (the smaller chamber).

Squeeze the bottles to dispense the base and activator into the chambers until the desired amount is reached (2:1 ratio is automatically achieved by filling the chambers).

Combine in a separate container and mix throroughly.

Apply the stabiliser to the affected timber with a brush, allowing it to penetrate for at least 20 minutes. After penetration, remove any excess stabiliser with absorbent paper.

What else you'll need

A brush, a plastic cup or container for mixing, absorbent paper and gloves. A router or chisel and a moisture meter help with preparation. Then an Evermend filler to complete the repair.

Questions

Good to know

Do I really need the stabiliser?

For any repair involving rot or damp-affected timber, yes. Use it after you've removed the rotten timber and checked the wood is below 18% moisture, and before you apply the filler. If you're not sure whether your repair needs it, give us a call.

Should I choose 1 Hour or 4 Hour?

Choose 1 Hour when you want to shape, sand and paint the same day. Choose 4 Hour when you want more time to work the filler. If you're unsure, give us a call and tell us about the repair.

Is it cheaper to buy in bulk?

Yes. Packs of 5, 10 and 20 cartridges cost less per cartridge, and there are bundles with a gun and stabiliser. See the best ways to buy Evermend.
