How do I calculate how much beading I need?

Stop / Staff Bead

  1. Measure the perimeter of the window frame — that's the height x 2 and the width x 2 of the window.
  2. Add these four measurements together, then add at least 100mm to each individual measurement to allow for mitre cuts.

Parting Bead

  1. Measure vertically from the sill to the head of the frame.
  2. Multiply this by two, as parting bead is needed on both sides of the window.
// Worked example — 900mm wide x 1200mm tall window Stop bead: height x 2 = 2400mm + 100mm allowance = 2500mm
           width x 2 = 1800mm + 100mm allowance = 1900mm
           total stop bead needed ≈ 4400mm (4.4 metres)

Parting bead: 1200mm x 2 = 2400mm + 200mm allowance ≈ 2600mm (2.6 metres)
Tip: if you have multiple windows, measure each one individually — windows in older homes often vary in size, even within the same room. Not sure? Call us on 02 7228 0625 and we'll help you work out exactly what you need before you order.
