Sash Window Add On Weight - One Pound (0.45kg)
Perfect for all double hung sash windows, these add on lead weights let you fine tune the counterbalance when restoring or repairing a traditional sash window, without needing to source a whole new set.
Why Add On Weights Matter
If your sash window is slamming shut, or won't stay up on its own, chances are the counterweight is incorrect. Over the years, as glass is replaced with a heavier or lighter pane, the weight of the sash changes. This means the original counterweights no longer match, and rebalancing is required. For smooth, effortless operation, the total weight of your counterweights needs to match the full weight of the glazed sash.
Designed to Move Freely, Not Jam
Our round, domed design slots neatly onto existing sash weights, allowing smooth, efficient movement inside the box, without the jamming issues that square or flat edged weights can cause.

Installation:
How to Rebalance Your Double-Hung Sash Window
Remove the sash window: Carefully lift and tilt the sash out of the frame. You may need to remove the staff and parting beads first.
Access the weights: Inside the frame, open the weight pocket cover (behind the parting bead). Untie the sash cord, pass it back through the pulley, and remove the old weights.
Top sash: Weigh the sash using a bathroom scale. Add 1 pound (approx. 0.46 kg), then divide by 2. This is the weight needed on each side of the top sash.
Bottom sash: Weigh the sash and divide the total weight by 2. This is the weight needed on each side of the bottom sash.
Install new cord and weights: Thread a string with a small weight through the pulley to pull the new sash cord through. Tie on the new weights and knot securely to avoid slipping.
Reinstall the sash: Carefully place the sash back into the frame. You may need assistance. Pin the cord to the sash using galvanised nails and test for smooth operation.
Tip: Make sure both sashes are properly balanced before sealing up the frame. This ensures safe and smooth operation.
