The right seal for closing surfaces — engineered for rebates 2.7–3.0mm wide

Draughts around casement windows and entry doors happen for one simple reason: there's a gap where two surfaces close together, and that gap needs something that can compress into it to block air and water. That's exactly what this seal is built for. Our Compression Weatherseal uses a resilient polyurethane foam core to fill the closing gap on casement windows and doors, cutting draughts to a minimum while maintaining a smooth, easy close.

Important: this seal is designed specifically for surfaces that close and compress, not surfaces that slide. If you're draught-proofing a double hung sash window, a compression seal is the wrong tool for the job: sliding sashes wear compression seals down quickly and the seal never gets to do what it's designed for. For sash windows, you'll get a far longer-lasting, better-performing result with our Timber Brush Seal — purpose-built for sliding applications. Read our full guide on compression seals vs brush seals to see why the seal type matters so much.

Why choose Compression Weatherseal?

  • Purpose-built for closing gaps – ideal for casement windows and doors where two surfaces meet and compress shut
  • Polyurethane foam core – high durability with superior recovery performance, returning to its original shape after every compression
  • Polyethylene film – weather and UV resistant, so performance doesn't fade in the sun
  • Polypropylene insert – prevents elongation and shrinkage over time
  • Non-shrinking, even in extreme weather – holds its seal through Australian summers and winters alike
  • Paint and stain proof – won't be damaged by a repaint of your frames or door
  • How it works

Compression Weatherseal sits proud of the frame so that, when the casement window or door swings shut, it compresses against the closing surface, sealing out air and water at the point of contact. Because it's engineered with excellent memory, it springs back to its original profile every time the window or door reopens, rather than staying flattened and losing its seal like cheaper alternatives.

Supplied in a continuous piece based on the length you order — order 2 metres and you'll receive one continuous 2-metre length, order 9 metres and you'll receive one continuous 9-metre length, and so on.

    Installation Instructions

The seal is a simple push fit into the groove and fits alongside the bead or overlap of the window or door. A roller can be used to roll the seal into the groove to aid insertion — take care not to damage the seal while doing this.

    1. Mark the timber beading for cutting. Make sure the "V" of the flipper faces away from the external edge of the window or door (otherwise water can collect in the "V") and that the top edge is flush to the top of the beading.
    2. Determine the gap size and whether the seal is for a rebated fit or flush fit.
    3. Cut a channel for the foot (see groove depth specification above).
    4. Measure the size of the seal required and cut to length, ensuring it is mitred in the corners.
    5. Make sure the surface is clean and dry and free from any surface oils, dirt, or sawdust.
    6. Push fit the foot into the routed groove, making sure it is a good, tight fit.
    7. Make sure the flipper doesn't sit too proud of the beading, otherwise the seal will fail — and make sure it isn't set too low, otherwise water may collect in the gap.
    8. Test the window or door to make sure it opens and closes smoothly.

Not sure which seal you need?

If your project is a double hung sash window, don't use a compression seal — the sliding motion will wear it out fast and it won't seal properly in the meantime. Instead, shop our Timber Brush Seal, purpose-built for sliding sash applications. For everything else — casement windows, entry doors, and furniture — Compression Weatherseal is the right call.
