Secure Sash Window Stop – Product Details

Crafted from high-quality brass and mild steel for strength, durability, and a refined finish.

Features a heavy-duty brass stopper that offers robust protection and peace of mind.

Child-safe design: Operates with a key, preventing children from tampering with or opening the window.

Two Secure Stops are installed just above the meeting rail on both sides of the top sash, acting as a secondary locking device to complement your sash fastener.

Additional Secure Stops can be installed 100mm above the first set to create a secure ventilation position.

This “night vent” setting allows air flow while ensuring the window remains secure from the outside.

The stopper screws into a discreet screw plug fitted into the sash frame, and can be removed and stored when not in use.

Simple installation: Requires just 2 or 4 pilot holes and minimal tools.

Strong, durable, and insurance-compliant thanks to its lockable design.

Offers excellent mechanical properties for long-lasting performance.

Architecturally appealing and preferred by designers over bulky plastic alternatives – adds to the heritage look of sash windows.

Pair with matching sash lifts, fasteners, and pulleys from our range to complete the look and enhance both style and security.

TIP: We always recommend having all materials onsite PRIOR to commencing any restoration project as sometimes delays occur in the courier network which are outside of the control of Lock and Latch.

Installation:

Secure Sash Window Stop – Installation Instructions

Before you begin: Ensure the sash window is fully closed and locked. This will help you position the stops correctly for a secure fit.

Step-by-Step Installation

Mark the centre of the vertical stile on the top sash, approximately 10mm above the meeting rail.

Drill a 10mm pilot hole at the marked point.

Insert the screw plug into the hole and tighten it using a 6mm hex key. It can be recessed slightly into the sash if desired.

Repeat this process on the opposite side of the sash.

Using the key, screw the stop into the screw plug. Then, mark the position of the strike plate on the top face of the meeting rail (bottom sash).

Fit the strike plate directly beneath the stop. Repeat on the opposite side.

If a ventilation gap is required, install a second stop approximately 100mm above the first. Repeat the process on both sides.

General Product Guidance

Check all fasteners and handles before and after installation to ensure correct operation and performance.

Install only after building work is complete: Avoid fitting during the drying phase of plaster or cement flooring, as high humidity may corrode brass components.

Wood compatibility: Certain timbers (e.g., Accoya and Oak) can be corrosive to brass. Avoid using brass fixings with these materials. Some hardwoods can also release natural resins that may affect performance.

Fixing Tips

Brass screws are soft — always drill a pilot hole before screwing by hand.

Never use a power drill or electric screwdriver, as it may strip or damage the screws or coatings.

For smoother installation, rub the screw shaft with beeswax before fitting.

Use only the supplied brass screws to avoid corrosion from mixing metals (e.g., brass with steel).
